Client account

How to create a client account, finish your company profile, and use the hiring and project tools that come with it.

Overview

A client account is the workspace for hiring freelancers and running the work afterward. It is separate from a freelancer account. The same login can own one client account and one freelancer account. You switch between them from the account menu.

The person who creates the client account is its Super Admin. They can invite teammates as Admin or Standard. How those roles work is on the Account user roles page, and how invites are accepted is on the Account invitations page.

Create the account

Start from Get started, create a login, and verify your email with the 6-digit code. The code expires in 30 minutes. After your email is confirmed, choose Client as the workspace.

  1. Create a login with your name, email, and password, and accept the terms
  2. Verify the email address with the code Lancer sends you
  3. Choose Client on the workspace screen
  4. Lancer creates the account and starts the free client plan
  5. Name the company and finish the profile setup

The client plan itself is free. You are billed only when you buy extra seats, connects, or job credits. The owner’s seat is included. If the free plan cannot be started, the account still exists and you can retry from billing.

One login can own one client account. If you already have one, open that workspace instead of creating another.

Finish your company profile

After the account is created, Lancer opens a short setup wizard. You can skip it and return later from your profile. Find freelancers stays hidden until the required profile fields are done: a profile picture, a company description, and an industry.

The wizard walks through:

  • Account name, shown to freelancers
  • Profile picture, also used as the company image until you add one
  • Company description
  • Industry
  • Company picture, company size, and website, all optional
  • Billing details, optional. Freelancers use these on Stripe invoices. Your account email is included unless you change it.

Find freelancers and post jobs

My business includes Find freelancers once your profile is complete, plus My jobs and My connections.

  • Spend connects to reach a freelancer directly, without posting a public job
  • Create jobs and invite freelancers you are already connected with. Those invites do not use a job credit.
  • Spend one job credit, $50, only when you open a job so people can apply publicly
  • Review applications, hire, and keep the conversation in connection chat
  • Keep the freelancers you hire under My connections, and invite them again later

Posting jobs, reviewing applicants, and connection chat are available to the Super Admin and to Admins. Standard members do not manage hiring.

Run the work

Project management is the delivery workspace: a dashboard, tasks, projects, and worklogs. A Super Admin or Admin sees every project the account owns and is treated as a manager on those projects. A Standard member sees the projects they belong to.

  • Create projects and link a hired job to a project
  • Track tasks, milestones, documents, and time on the work you hired
  • Invite teammates onto a project as Manager, Member, or Viewer
  • Use an account-wide dashboard of work done by your team and by hired freelancers

What each project role can change is described on the Project user roles page. Admins can turn off project creation for Standard members from Settings.

Team and billing

Client accounts are the accounts that have a team. Open Manage team to invite someone by email as Admin or Standard. Each member and each pending invite uses a seat. Buy more seats from Subscription & Billing when you need them.

  • The owner manages the account name, company profile, and who can be removed
  • Admins can invite people, change roles, and manage jobs and projects
  • Standard members work on the projects they belong to
  • Connects and job credits are purchased when you need to reach someone new or open a job publicly
  • Billing details live under Settings and are what freelancers put on invoices
