Invoices

How a freelancer or agency creates a Stripe invoice from billable work, and why Lancer does not take a fee.

Who can invoice

Invoices are for freelancer and agency accounts. A Super Admin or an Admin opens Invoices and chooses Create invoice. Connect Stripe under Settings → Integrations before you send one. Lancer does not take a fee from the invoice. Payment stays between you and your client on Stripe.

Create an invoice

Create invoice has three steps.

  1. Choose a customer. Only customers that already exist in Stripe are listed. If the list is empty, import customers from Settings → Integrations.
  2. Optionally pick a date range. Lancer can add billable worklogs and completed fixed-price projects from that range as line items. You can skip this step.
  3. Set a due date, then review the lines. Add a line by hand, or edit the description, quantity, and amount. Save draft keeps it unsent. Send invoice delivers it.
Billable hours come from worklogs. How to mark time billable is described on the Logging time page.

After it is sent

Sent invoices stay on the Invoices list. A draft can be opened again and sent later. The customer pays through Stripe, and that payment is not a Lancer charge.
