Contracts
How a client and a freelancer share a contract on an application, and what approval in Lancer means.
Where the contract lives
The contract is attached to a job application. Either side can upload it while the application is In review or waiting on the freelancer to confirm the offer. A new upload replaces the current file and starts approval over. Earlier files stay in the history.
Accepted files are PDF, Word, Excel, TXT, and CSV, up to 25 MB.
Approval
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| No contract | Nothing has been uploaded yet. |
| Pending approval | A file is up, and both sides have not approved it. |
| Approved by both | Each side has approved the current file. |
Approval is not a legal signature. When both sides approve, Lancer treats the file as a shared acknowledgement of the terms you uploaded. Confirming a hire in Lancer is not a legal signature either.
Confirming the hire
The freelancer or agency can still confirm the offer if the contract is not fully approved. Lancer warns them first that confirming in the product is not a legal acceptance of the file.
Sending and confirming the offer is covered in Reviewing applications and Applying to a job.
